A New Climate in the State Legislature

As the Nebraska state legislature reconvenes this month, a new bill – LB 283 – would allocate the University of Nebraska with up to $250k to develop an “evidence-based, data-driven, strategic action plan” to adapt and mitigate the impacts of climate change. The action plan would build on the university’s 2014 report “Understanding and Assessing Climate Change: Implications for Nebraska.”

Introduced by Sen. Patty Pansing Brooks, LD 28, the legislation builds off previous efforts to develop a coordinated statewide plan across key sectors, including agriculture, water, public health, energy, communities, ecosystems, transportation and commerce. A public hearing has not yet been set – but we will be tracking this and posting details as they become available.
